Melanochromis Interruptus are from the Mbuna group of Malawi cichlids. These are rock dwelling cichlids that can be very aggressive so need to be kept with the same family in a rocky enviroment.
However Melanochromis Interruptus have been officially declared as a vulnerable species in the wild as well as becoming very hard to find in the trade. Going back 20 years ago these stunning little fish were once one of the most popular and widely available Malawi cichlids, every Mbuna tank had them and probably bred them. I used to breed them but a change in circumstances meant that I had to give my last breeding pair away just over a year ago.
Lucky for me I recently managed to get my hands on a group of 8 young and already have a beautiful looking dominant male at only 1.5 inches. I keep this group in a single species tank and hopefully they will begin to breed soon so that I can keep this once very popular species going.
